History of Copper

Copper is a material that withstands the test of time. It was first used by man over 100,000 years ago. The first known application is an Iranian copper pendant that dates to 8700 B.C.

Although pure copper was used by early-day man, metallurgy was eventually introduced. Copper oxide was smelted into malachite and azurite further proving the metal’s versatility. 

It wasn’t until 5000 BC that other metals were introduced. Bronze was a popular alternative, and eventually, the Bronze Age ensued. However, the era came to an end due to trade disruptions.
